Community fundraiser

MUNCY – Church of the Resurrection, 75 Musser Lane, will hold a community fundraiser event at Wendy’s Restaurant, Route 405, from 5-8 p.m. A portion of all sales will be given to the church.


Halloween alternative

AVIS – Avis United Methodist Church, 215 Prospect Ave., will hold an alternative Halloween event from 6-8 p.m. in the church parking lot. Numerous car trunks will be decorated and all children will receive a treat. For more information, call 570-753-3817.

All Saints Day service

Three area churches will hold a combined All Saints Day service at 7 p.m. at All Saints Episcopal Church, 1656 Scott St., with the Rev. Andrew France conducting the service for all three churches. Also participating are Church of the Good Shepherd and Church of Our Saviour, both in Montoursville.

Lecture series concludes

Ancient African Christianity will be the topic of discussion at 7 p.m. as the fall lecture series at Holy Cross Orthodox Church, 1725 Holy Cross Lane in Loyalsock Township, concludes. Presenting “An Unbroken Circle: Linking Ancient African Christianity to the African-American Experience” will be nationally known speaker Father Moses Berry, of Ash Grove, Mo. A priest of the Orthodox Church in America, Berry, also the founder of the Brotherhood of St. Moses the Black, has spoken widely throughout the U.S. on African-American Christianity and spirituality, and has appeared on ABC’s “Good Morning America” and the National Geographic Channel. The free public lecture will be held in the church sanctuary off Northway Road. A free-will offering will be received. Pork and sauerkraut dinner

Parents workshop registration deadline

ROSEVILLE – Roseville United Methodist Church, 4118 Route 549, will hold a ham supper fro 3-6:30 p.m. to benefit ministries of the church.

Turkey dinner

First United Methodist Church, 601 Market St., will hold a family style turkey dinner in the Christian Life Center from 3:30-6:30 p.m. featuring turkey. Cost is $8.50 for adults, $4.50 for children 6-10 and free for those 5 and under. Takeouts available for $8.50.

Trunk ‘r treat

First Southern Baptist Church, 89 Kimble Hill Road in Loyalsock Township, will hold a trunk ‘r treat from 4-8 p.m. Children can wear their Halloween costumes, go from decorated car trunk to car trunk, and collect goodies at a safe alternative to trick-or-treating that is free. Activities include a bounce house for the children, carnival games, football games starting at 3 p.m. and a potluck meal.

Auction scheduled

PICTURE ROCKS – Picture Rocks United Methodist Church will host an auction at 5:30 p.m. Items to be auctioned include craft items and baked goods. Food will be available.

All Hallows Eve service

MONTGOMERY – The youth group at St. John Lutheran “Brick” Church, Route 405, will hold an all hallow’s eve church service at 7 p.m. The service will start in the church parking lot and then proceed to the cemetery next door to continue the service. (Please note that this is a church service)

Puppet ministry in action

Tent revival meeting set

SONESTOWN – The Methodist churches of Muncy Valley in Sullivan County will hold a tent revival service as part of the Sonestown Heritage Festival. The Greenwood Valley Boys will play bluegrass gospel as part of the service, which begins at 10 a.m. at the Sonestown ball field. The service will be led by Pastor Craig Livermore, a 1987 graduate of Williamsport Area High School.

Regular worship schedule resumes

Newberry Church of Christ, 2101 Linn St., now is meeting on its new sanctuary and has resumed its regular worship schedule with traditional worship at 8 a.m. and a contemporary service at 10:30 a.m.

Lecture series continues

The fall lecture series at Holy Cross Orthodox Church, 1725 Holy Cross Lane in Loyalsock Township, off Northway Road, continues at 7 p.m. with a challenging presentation titled “From Science to Faith” by the Rev. Victor Gorodenchuk, a Soviet-trained physicist who discovered and embraced Christianity. Issues to be addressed include evolution, the Big Bang and Biblical criticism. Friedens homecoming

LIBERTY – Friedens Lutheran Church, 741 Brick Church Road, will hold its annual homecoming service at 11 a.m. A dinner will follow. The church’s origins date to 1871.
