Pot roast dinner

MAINESBURG – Mainesburg United Methodist Church, Route 6, will hold a pot roast dinner from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Proceeds will benefit the church and missions.

Kingdom Kidz in action

MILTON – The Kingdom Kidz Puppet Ministry, a division of Kingdom Kidz Inc., will present a black light program at the Milton YMCA, 12 Bound Ave., during a community family fun night from 6-8 p.m.


Classes at Ohev Sholom

Ohev Sholom Synagogue, 1501 Cherry St., will hold open classes taught by Rabbi Joel Kessler in basic Hebrew reading, using the program made famous by the National Jewish Outreach Program, and a Jewish laws and customs course. Classes start at 10 a.m. and will be held on subsequent Sundays thereafter. In addition, class will be repeated at 7 p.m. Tuesdays. Call 322-4209 for more information.


Free soup luncheon

Central Baptist Church, 601 Seventh Ave., will hold a free soup luncheon from noon to 1:30 p.m.

Oyster supper set

TURBOTVILLE – The 80th annual Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church men’s oyster supper will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the church fellowship hall at 39 Paradise St. An approximate donation of $13 per person will be requested at the door, the amount depending upon the cost of oysters just prior to the supper. Although it is not required to make a reservation, it would be helpful. Call 570-649-5195.

Senior citizens luncheon set

All Saints Episcopal Church, 1656 Scott St., will hold a senior citizens luncheon at noon featuring turkey pot pie and sandwiches.

Week of prayer event set

CANTON – The annual gathering of the members and ministers of all of the Christian communities of faith of the Canton Area Ministerial Association and in the Canton Area School District will celebrate the 2014 Week of Prayer for Christian Unity at 7 p.m. at the New Life Church, McMurray Road. Guest speaker will be the Rev. Bonnie L. Browning, minister of the Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ), Canton, and president of the Canton Area Ministerial Association. Other clergy from the area also will participate. Special music will be provided by musical choirs, groups, and persons from the area churches and the Ministers and Mates Choir. Also members of the 2013 Christmas Celebration Conglomeration who are available will sing an encore presentation of the song “People Wait.” There is to be one rehearsal at 5:45 p.m. before the 7 p.m. celebration. Video series, race discussion

MONTGOMERY – St. John Lutheran “Brick” Church, Route 405, will present a three-night video series and discussion on race in celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The three-part PBS documentary produced in 2003 by California Newsreel is titled, “Race: The Power of an Illusion.” Beginning at 7 p.m. each night will start with 20 minutes of discussion, continue with 55 minutes of video and end with 30 minutes of discussion.


All-you-can-eat buffet

PENNSDALE – Trinity United Methodist Church, 658 Village Road, will hold an all-you-can-eat buffet catered by Springman’s Country Store, of Pennsdale, from, 4-7 p.m. featuring bone-in ham and hand-pulled pork barbecue. Tickets cost $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 5-10 and free for children under 5 years. Take-outs are available for $10 each.


Free fellowship meal

WATSONTOWN – St. John’s Lutheran Church, 6590 Musser Lane, will hold a free pork and sauerkraut fellowship meal from 4:30-6:30 p.m.


Retirees eat free

Montoursville Presbyterian Church, 900 Elm St., will serve a free lunch to retirees at noon. Free-will donations accepted.

Free community dinner

St. Paul-Calvary United Methodist Church, 1427 Memorial Ave., will hold a free community dinner from 5:30-6:45 p.m. featuring sauerkraut, pork and hot dogs.

Week of prayer service

Holy Cross Orthodox Church, 1725 Holy Cross Lane off Northway Road in Loyalsock Township, will hold a service for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity at 7 p.m., in cooperation with the United Churches of Lycoming County. A free-will offering to benefit the United Churches ministries will be received. The Holy Cross Auxiliary will provide refreshments following the service in the Orthodox Fellowship Center adjacent to the church.

Pancake supper canceled

PINE SUMMIT – Pine Summit United Methodist Church will not hold its annual old-fashioned pancake and sausage supper this year. Church leaders hope it will return next year.

Free clothing giveaway

WATSONTOWN – Watsontown United Methodist Church, Third Street, will open its Joseph’s Closet doors for free clothing from 8-11 a.m. Have a donation? Drop donations off the week prior to the give-away.

Free clothing available

Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1101 Washington Blvd., will open its Daniel’s Closet free clothing giveaway from 9-11 a.m. Donations of clean, seasonal clothing will be accepted from 4:30- 6 p.m. Jan. 23.

WATSONTOWN – Watsontown United Methodist Church, 1319 Eighth St. Drive, will hold a free lunch starting at 11 a.m.

3 kings arriving

Epiphany Eve Service will be held at 6 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, 844 W. Fourth St. The service features the three kings and is enjoyable for both children and adults. The children will be asked to remove their shoes and line them up outside the church hallway before the service begins. When the service concludes, they will find a special present from the wise men in their shoes. Call the church at 570-322-0126 if you plan to come for pizza at 5:30 p.m. before the service.


1st Tuesday dinner

Farragut Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Route 864 near the intersection with Route 87, will hold its monthly First Tuesday Fellowship Dinner from 5:30-7 p.m. Free-will donations are accepted.


“The Harbinger” Bible study will be held at 12:30 p.m. Thursdays at Heshbon Park United Methodist Church, 2898 Heshbon Road, first floor classroom. Class leader Pastor David Keller reminds attendees to bring their Bible and said that entrance may be gained at either the front or rear doors.
