Lutheran women meet in convention

MIFFLINBURG – The Upper Susquehanna Synodical Women’s Organization held its 27th annual Convention Aug. 2 at the Evergreen Center at Camp Mount Luther. The theme was “Sharing God’s Grace with All Generations,” focusing on the Biblical passage from Ephesians 2: 8-9.

The worship and Bible study leader for the local convention was Pastor Rochelle Lewis.

As part of the convention, three special guests were present. The executive director of the Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), Linda Post Bushkofsky, was in attendance as a representative from the churchwide organization. And, Jody Smiley, an executive board member of the Women of the ELCA, also was in attendance. Sandy Grier, of Williamsport, was part of the convention as well. She recently was elected to the board of the Women of the ELCA, at the triennial convention in July. She is the first person from the Upper Susquehanna Synod to be elected to the national board.

The Upper Susquehanna Synod, headquartered in Lewisburg, is one of 65 synods of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. The synod is made up of 130 congregations in Clinton, Columbia, Juniata, Lycoming, Mifflin, Montour, Northumberland, Snyder, Tioga and Union counties.
