Enlarge your harvest

“But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” Matthew 6:33-34

Today, everyone is looking for a way; a way to make a living, a way to raise the family, a way to hold a good job, and the list goes on. We are living in dark times spiritually and nervous times economically. But, I think as Christians, we have so much more going for us than does the world. We have God and we have God’s promises. We have the church family. We have the Bible for instruction and motivation, and we have eternal life. So, you see, we truly do have hope.

These are great times for the Christian to seek His kingdom and His righteousness. Now is not the time to lose our courage or faith, but to use it. Now is the time to increase our giving and evangelism. Now is the time to pray more frequently and to seek God’s will in everything. Now is the time for Christians to truly be the light in this dark world. It is not the time to shrink back.

So, how are we going to enlarge our harvest? In this article I am using harvest as our income. We also know the greatest harvest is the harvest of souls, which we always must continue.

First, we must be completely under God’s authority and guidance. With no shortcuts, we must be fruitful no matter what. We are called to be disciples, who are cross bearers, fruit bearers, love bearers and Word bearers. We are subjects of God’s kingdom, so we must live and act as such.

Second, to enlarge your harvest, you must take inventory. What are my talents and gifts? Am I using them? What are my capabilities? What opportunities do I see in my circumstance to enlarge my harvest? What am I willing to sacrifice or give up to enlarge my harvest? These questions are soul searching and very important.

Third, when opportunities come, how do I take advantage of them? You must be prepared beforehand. You need resources and knowledge. To enlarge your harvest you must know how to use your talents and gifts and take advantage of opportunities and then do it. Many opportunities bypass people because they are not prepared or they are not aware that they are there. We must be proactive not reactionary.

Fourth, the goal for the harvest is very important. Do you want to enlarge your harvest just to have more money and material things or do you want to bless the kingdom? The right goal is to do more to share more and invest in God’s kingdom. But, the real goal every Christian should desire is to be debt free. When you are out of debt, it’s like you just got a big raise. You are not the slave of the lender. You now are in control of your harvest.

Fifth, think about these two verses in Proverbs:

“He who gathers money little by little makes it grow.”

Prov. 13:11b.

“The blessing of the Lord brings wealth, and he adds no trouble to it.”

Prov. 10:22
