An afternoon of praise, music, fellowship and food beckoned locals to a backyard in Newberry recently.

The event was organized by Diamond Street Christian Church, 822 Diamond St., and members from Ebenezer Baptist Church, 527 Park Ave., Wings of Love Community Church, 699 Southmont Ave., South Williamsport, and Revival Tabernacle, of Watsontown, came out in support.

“We wanted to reach out to people that don’t come to church,” Diamond Street member Ronald Johnson said. “All are welcome, without a doubt.”

The church hopes to hold another backyard praise event sometime in the fall, Johnson said.

Music was performed by the Kimberly Adair & Soulful band and bags of goodies were available for the children.

Johnson said the city is full of a number of churches, but the group hopes to make a concerted effort of reaching the Newberry area. He added that a number of locals from the neighborhood attended the party.

“We all need to come together and to support each other, no matter what the situation,” Johnson said.
