Henry Dunn Insurance is community-based

Though Henry Dunn Insurance is a growing corporation they are still a community-based business where close client relationships are key.

Henry Dunn has been around since 1933 and is now in its third generation of corporate leadership, still run by the same family that lent its name to the business over 80 years ago.

“We are a full-service, independent insurance broker and we handle virtually any insurance needs for any individual, home owner or businessman,” said Steve Cappelli, vice president. “We provide auto, home, life, business insurance, bonding, employee benefits and financial planning.”

Towanda holds Henry Dunn’s corporate office. Other locations include Williamsport, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Sayre and Elmira, New York.

The insurance broker has been in the Lycoming County marketplace for almost 13 years when it acquired Mallalieu-Golder Insurance in 2002, and with it, Dave Eakin, the former owner of Mallalieu-Golder and current regional vice president of Henry Dunn.

Eakin said the insurance agency doubled in size when it acquired his company and since then, the corporation has continued to grow, recently moving to a larger location at 175 Pine Street.

“We outgrew the location next to the James V. Brown Library and made a strategic business decision to relocate here where we had more space for the growing staff and the ability to physically build out further,” Cappelli said. “We love being in the center of downtown. Our employees like to walk to lunch and enjoy some of the retail opportunities and it seems to be a good fit for our clients too.”

Working in an industry that is constantly changing, the insurance agency specifically built a conference room to be used for training presentations and programs.

“Education is critical in our field,” Cappelli said. “We try to provide our employees with enhanced, continued education. As their knowledge grows, we think the service level to our clients grows.”

Even though the company continues to expand, Henry Dunn and its staff try to remember where they came from.

“Every company wants to grow, be more profitable and successful. But I think we’re trying to stick to our roots and those roots are that we’re a community-based insurance agency.,” Cappelli said. “We know our clients on a first name business and they know their customer service representative on a first name basis.”

For businesses and residents in the area who don’t know Henry Dunn Insurance, the corporation is having an open house event June 5, including a ribbon cutting at the Pine Street location and refreshments for all that attend.

“We’re not a large corporation. We’re a growing corporation that remains very close with our clients,” Cappelli said. “At the end of the day I think those relationships, aside from our employees, are the most valuable thing we have.”
