Artisan Hearing dedicated to service

When the audiologist practice that Jennifer Yerke used to work for went out of business due to death of the owner, Yerke was concerned about what would happen to her patients.

That concern prompted her to open her own practice, Artisan Hearing Technologies LLC, 324 W. Southern Ave., South Williamsport.

Yerke, who has been working in the audiology field since 2004, provides complete hearing services for her patients.

“I opened my own business to help clients in the Lycoming County area with hearing needs as well as honoring warranties, free of charge, to all Microtone patients,” Yerke said.

Artisan provides free diagnostic evaluations to determine whether hearing loss is medically treatable or related to ear wax, and if the candidate is eligible for hearing aids.

Using a Verifit machine, Yerke tests her patients hearing based on scientific measurements of how sound naturally travels through the ear to find the best match for the patient.

Hearing evaluations are done in a sound proof booth.

Yerke offers a free two week trial period on hearing devices, because she understands that hearing aids can be a big investment and wants her clients to be satisfied with what they are getting.

“I strongly believe in ‘try it before you buy it,'” Yerke said.

The business honors all manufacturer warranties, and Yerke will provide service for five years for patients who purchase hearing aids at her store, free of charge.

Yerke can modify old hearing aids for patients who may need a new fit or need repairs and would like to continue using the aids they have as opposed to buying a new pair.

“We work with hearing aids from the oldest technology,” Yerke said. “From analogue hearing aids all the way up to the newest technology with wireless and streaming aids.”

For those interested in learning more about the new technology, Yerke does free demonstration in her office.

One new technology she offers allows hearing aid wearers to sync up their television’s sound to their aids, and they can control the volume of the television in their ears, even muting environmental noise surrounding them.

Artisan works with programs like True Hearing and other government insurances that will help offset the cost of hearing aids.

She’s also running a promotion for members of the Chamber of Commerce, offering $250 off to chamber members.

She likes doing business out of South Williamsport and enjoys the relationship she has with members of the community.

“You don’t just have patients; you have family members,” she said. “You meet interesting people. Everyone has a story.”

For the future, Yerke is looking into providing home health care one day a week by appointment for patients who can not make it into the office. She also wants to offer a walk-in clinic where patients can come in without appointments certain mornings and afternoons.
