Vein Center provides needed treatment

In 2013, Dr. Suzan McGary returned to the area after leaving nearly 10 years prior with a desire to serve her former patients.

She started the Susquehanna Valley Vein Center, 457 River Ave., and ever since, things have been going well for the practice.

“We’ve been well received by the community,” McGary said. “There’s a great need for what we do and we’re able to make a difference.”

The focus is treatment of vericose veins or venous insufficiency that causes pain, swelling or restless legs, McGary said. The center does ultrasounds to assess pain and how the problem can be fixed, often times with laser treatment or injection.

In addition to vein work, the Susquehanna Valley Vein Center has begun cosmetic practices within the last five months, treating spider veins, age spots, skin conditions and performing facial rejuvenation.

Susquehanna Valley Vein Center’s staff includes physician McGary, a physician’s assistant, two synographers, a medical technician and an office manager. The staff does all they can to ensure the comfort of those visiting the center.

The decor is colorful and inviting, designed to make all feel welcome as they enter, McGary said.

Many patients at the center are those who knew McGary from her previous time as a physician in the area, and she often gets referrals from doctors who knew her in that time.

But the biggest way McGary draws in new patients is through word of mouth, she said.

To make sure all patients are adequately treated, McGary and the rest of the staff keep up to date with the ever changing world of medical knowledge in various ways. McGary and her physician’s assistant attend two national meetings a year concerning new practices in the area of medicine. They read journals, keep in touch with other vein clinics and take examines to ensure their knowledge is up to par.

McGary is board certified by the American College of Phlebology and all staff has specialized education.

“It’s important everyone is well educated,” McGary said.

As the practice moves into the future, McGary hopes to continue to expand the services she is able to offer.

“We’ve been growing so fast. I would like to expand the cosmetic offerings we have and open it to more spa-like services,” McGary said.

McGary said that the practice is doing everything it should be medically and will continue to look for opportunities to expand its aesthetic practice, all in ways the area is not already served that require a physician’s supervision.
