Plankenhorn serves area offices with broad selection

Plankenhorn Stationery and Printers has been serving the Williamsport area with its wide selection of office supplies and furniture since 1899. While many local businesses have found it difficult to stand up against national competitors, Plankenhorn’s has remained steadfast.

The business began 117 years ago with Charles J. Plankenhorn, who passed it down through four generations to today’s store president, Chris Plankenhorn who took over in 1991. It is also run by Chip Plankenhorn with Tom Hunsberger’s assistance in furniture sales, said Chris.

It has been at its 144 W. Fourth St. location since 1909, said Charlie Plankenhorn, clerk.

“We started off with selling rubber stamps for the ‘Grit’ then over the years expanded to art supplies and office furniture,” he said.

The shop sells office supplies, stationery, cards and does printing, said Charlie. They even do wedding announcements and invitations, he said.

Furniture wise they have everything for offices, conference rooms, nursing homes and reception areas, said Hunsberger.

Providing quality customer service and competitive pricing are what the Plankenhorn family prides itself on, they said.

All of the employees have around 160 years of combined experience in selling office supplies and furniture, said Chris. The printers each have 25 years of experience, he said.

“If a customer has a question, we can answer it,” he said. “But if we can’t, we will find somebody who can answer it for them.”

With a knowledge base the runs deep, they are able to assist customers in all of their office-related needs, he said.

Besides its physical store, the family has launched the website, to widen their consumer base, said Chris.

This allows people to search their inventory, compare prices and see the different furniture options available, he said.

There is also an ink and toner finder which helps customers determine what they need for their specific printer, according to the website.

Anything that is purchased on the website they will deliver, said Chip.

If somebody buys furniture, Hunsberger and his crew will deliver and construct the piece for them, said Hunsberger. They want to make sure the customer is taken care of, he said.

From office supplies to furniture, Plankenhorn’s is a one-stop shop, he said.

“We want to show our customers that we can be superior in service and knowledge,” said Chris.
