City planners act on variance issue

The Williamsport Planning Commission Monday approved a variance for a city business owner to re-establish retail space in a residential zone.

Hugh and Carol Sides were required to seek the variance for the site at 45 Washington Boulevard because the building has been vacant for at least six months.

The Sides’ formerly operated their music business from the building. Two businesses, Hoyer’s Photo and Aerus Electrolux, now operate at the site.

In recent years, the site had been the home of Gold Crafters Corner, which has relocated.

In other matters, the commission agreed to permit Jersey Shore State Bank to erect a new sign at 300 Market St.

A request was granted to Gregory and Georgene Gardner to subdivide a lot at 1735 Almond St.

The commission also granted a certificate of appropriateness to Nick Schneider to paint a metal roof at 251 Penn St.
