Deadline looms for 24-hour ‘giving’ event
As the First Community Foundation Partnership is set to hold a 24-hour fundraising event in early March, the deadline for nonprofits to apply to participate in Raise the Region 2013 is Friday.
Raise the Region will give the residents in the six counties the partnership serves – Lycoming, Columbia, Montour, Northumberland, Snyder and Union – the opportunity to donate to their nonprofit organization of choice through an online fundraiser.
“I think it’s really about the spirit of giving,” said Jennifer D. Wilson, partnership president and CEO.
Wilson said this is the first fundraising effort like this event that the area has seen. The partnership in Centre County did a similar event last year.
“This is a way (donors) can quickly go online and make a donation,” Wilson said.
But before the March 12 event, the partnership is encouraging any nonprofit that hasn’t applied to be a part of the event, to do so.
Over 100 nonprofits already have signed up to be a part of the event.
“We’ve been very pleased with our responses,” Wilson said.
Donors can give donations, starting at $25, to any of the participating nonprofits. Donors will receive an email receipt for charitable tax purposes.
Wilson said the event is all about “the coming together of our communities for something good.”
Wilson said this event will give residents a “sense of community.” She believes the event could make a big impact on the communities and the services provided in them. She added that there are about 148,000 households in the six counties.
“Imagine if only a small percentage of them participate,” she said on how big of an impact it could make.
