Today’s candidate: John B. Raymond

John B. Raymond, of Loyalsock Township, has announced his intention to seek nomination for a second four-year term on the Loyalsock Township School Board. A registered Democrat, he intends to cross-file.

Raymond graduated from the township high school in 1970 and received a bachelor’s degree from Franklin and Marshall College in 1974. He received his teaching certification from Colgate University.

Raymond retired in 2007 after 30 years of teaching social studies at Williamsport Area High School. He was awarded a National Endowment for the Humanities fellowship to study at Lehigh University in 1986 and completed management training at Penn State University in 1993.

Since retiring from teaching, Raymond has been employed part-time at W.B. Griggs Coffee Store in Montoursville.

Raymond was named the Jaycees Young Man of the Year in 1980.

He has been involved with Little League Baseball, the Loyalsock Bicentennial Commission, the American Youth Soccer Organization, Odyssey of the Mind and the school board’s citizen advisory committee on building construction and renovation.

He is chairman of the school board education committee and serves on the facilities committee.

He is first vice president of the Lycoming County Historical Society.

He and his wife, Lana, have two sons.
