Author to speak Friday at Lyco

The STEP Inc. Early Learning Pathway and Penn State Extension will host Ellen Galinsky, president of Families and Work Institute and author of “Mind in the Making: The Seven Essential Life Skills Every Child Needs” Friday at Wendle Hall on Lycoming College’s campus.

Galinsky will appear twice Friday, 1 and 6 p.m., which will be in celebration of STEP’s week of the young child. The week focuses on awareness of the early childhood programs and services that families need.

At the Families and Work Institute, Galinsky established the field of work and family life at the Bank Street College of Education in New York.

Her book “Mind in the Making,” has sold more than 100,000 copies since April 2010.

Galinsky regularly appears at national conferences, on television and in the media, including the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric, World News Tonight and Oprah.

She served as the elected president of the National Association for the Education of Young Children and was elected a fellow of the National Academy of Human Resources in 2005.
