Beach Boys, Styx, Loretta Lynn to visit
The 20th season of performances at the Community Arts Center, 220 W. Fourth St., which recently was announced, is stacked with big-name headliners and shows for all audiences, according to Rob Steele, CAC executive director.
He said arranging such a lineup of star-studded performances isn’t easy.
The season begins Sept. 27 with the Beach Boys and includes other recognizable names such as Loretta Lynn, Starship with Mickey Thomas, Mannheim Steamroller, Jack Hanna and Doc Severinsen & His Big Band.
“Putting together a large and diverse roster of shows in a performing arts center season is a bit like juggling chain saws,” Steele said. “In fact, we once booked an act that juggled chain saws. We do our very best to assure that we have something for everyone who lives in our market.”
He added that although the national economy has been slumping, strong local ticket sales help to bring in “A-list” talent to the arts center.
Several other shows are being welcomed back, according to Steele.
Shows from animal wrangler Jack Hanna, Branson on the Road, Celtic Woman and tribute band Get the Led Out all are on tap for the new season.
“As a rule, Williamsport is not a ‘come-back’ market,” he said. “It is rare that we can successfully bring a show back a year or two after a well-attended performance. Once in while there are exceptions to the rule such as the Texas Tenors. Jack Hanna has given us cause to bend the rules and we are actually adding a student matinee on the morning of his show. It has been five years since we hosted the Led Zeppelin tribute ‘Get the Led Out’ and we have had hundreds of request for a return.”
