Public meeting set for landlord-tenant reporting ordinance

Mayor Gabriel J. Campana will take his proposed landlord-tenant notification ordinance to the public before it goes to City Council.

A public meeting to discuss the proposal will be held starting at 7 p.m. July 1 in Curtin Middle School at 85 Eldred St.

Campana claims the proposed ordinance will make landlords more accountable and neighborhoods safer, but opponents have expressed concern that it will infringe on personal security by requiring all landlords and tenants to register their names and addresses with the city’s Codes Department.

The meeting will be conducted by police officials and Councilman N. Clifford “Skip” Smith, chairman of the city Public Safety Committee.
