South Williamsport Area School District approves 2013-14 contracts before break

The South Williamsport school board approved several contracts for goods and services to be rendered during the 2013-14 school year at their Monday night board meeting.

The board approved the extension of agreements with BLaST Intermediate Unit 17 for special education services; with Children’s Development Center for therapy work and the use of TeenLink House, Montoursville; with Diakon Family Life; and with Pennsylvania Treatment and Healing for services for disruptive youth.

The board also approved the general supply bids for 2013-14.

“The way (these bids) work is we send out about 400 different items out to the teaching staff, they respond back to our office with what they need, and we take that and bid it out,” said business manager Dennis Artley.

Superintendent Mark Stamm informed the board about professional development programs to be held over the summer, including seminars on iPad and interactive whiteboard use, and specifically directed programs for those teachers who will be using new reading curricula in the fall.

The board will next meet on June 25 at 7 p.m. to pass its 2013-14 budget.
