Vicki Lewis walk-a-thon planned at fairgrounds
HUGHESVILLE – Those who want to honor Vicki Lewis’ memory may do so at a walk-a-thon Thursday on the Lycoming County Fairgrounds.
Lewis was a staff member of the Penn State Cooperative Extension of Lycoming County from 2000 until her death in November 2012, said Evelyn R. Simmons, 4-H youth development educator.
According to a Vicki Lewis Memorial Walk-A-Thon flyer, “In Vicki’s spirit of wanting 4-H to be accessible to all youngsters, all proceeds from the walk-a-thon will be available to help make 4-H events affordable to Lycoming County 4-H members who might not be able to participate otherwise” in the Vicki Lewis Fund.
The walk-a-thon, organized by the Lycoming County 4-H Advisory Committee, will be held in the horse ring from about 9:30 to 10:30 p.m. after the 4-H Fun Night concludes in the fairgrounds’ horse ring. Walkers who sign up are to get sponsorships, but there is no mandatory minimal amount.
Vicki’s daughter and husband from Louisiana will also be at the event and will be available for a photo opportunity with some sheep and dairy winners. There will be a dairy award and a reserve champion sheep award in Vicki’s name.
There are wrist-band sales and a Vicki Lewis exhibit in the Grange building at the fair, as well.
To join the walk-a-thon, contact the Extension office at 433-3040, or sign up at the fair with forms available at the 4-H food stand on the fairgrounds.
