Festive street party planned in city’s downtown
With many different genres of music playing and the feel of baseball in the air, downtown Williamsport will overflow with extraordinary food and art vendors, and a variety of talented musicians at month’s end.
This year’s fourth annual Williamsport Welcomes the World Festival will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday. Downtown streets will be closed to allow space for a joyous mixture of culinary art, music and art.
White tents will be filled with a commercial smorgasbord of popular artists.
“This is going to be a fabulous event,” said Yvonne Roskowski, WWTW committee member. “Anytime you can get your community to come together, everyone benefits.
“Art enthusiasts, art collectors and cultural tourists have shown a preference for shows offering a diversity of artistic styles and disciplines. With the Williamsport Welcomes the World event in downtown Williamsport, people will be in an appealing setting for enjoying art.”
Williamsport Welcomes the World will open the streets of downtown Williamsport to all families.
There will be a myriad of free children’s activities.
The Crosscutters are bringing their Skeet ball game and batting cage for all to play. Face painting will be provided by several community organizations. The amazing Uptown Music Collective students and bands will be performing as well.
“We have something very exciting coming to downtown,” said Cindi Perry from Clearchannel Radio. “It’s an opportunity to enjoy what our downtown, artists and musicians have to offer in our wonderful historic city, based on an international theme.”
Jason Fink, of the Williamsport/Lycoming Chamber of Commerce, expects the festival to attract 15,000 people and continue to be the exciting annual tradition for many who reside in the area.
The chamber is providing free the highly coveted Little League World Series baseball pins to be given out by downtown merchants.
