Intermediate Unit 17 employee fills in until district hires new business manager

BLOSSBURG – The treasurer’s report at Southern Tioga School board meeting Monday was handled by an “interim business manager” sent by the Blast Intermediate Unit 17 to help the district until a replacement for Laura Perry, who resigned effective Sept. 24, can be found.

He will be paid $375 per day two days per week retroactive to Aug. 5 through Sept. 15, following approval by the board during the meeting.

“Brian Driscoll will be with us until the middle of September when we can name a new business manager,” said district Superintendent Keith Yarger.

In other business, the board accepted the resignation of Perry, which was tendered July 25, along with those of nine other teachers and staff.

The board also granted tenure to five teachers. They are: Ashley Mascho and Clarissa Cummings, W.L. Miller Elementary, Mansfield; Cathleen Alexander and Alana Iapalucci, Liberty Elementary School; and Francis Novak, North Penn High School, Blossburg.

In other business the board:

Hired Nancy Vandegrift, District Technology technician, retroactive to March 13, with an annual salary of $32,000; Earl Brooks as custodian retroactive to July 11, for $8.87 per hour; Michele McIntosh as long-term substitute secretary to the principal of Blossburg Elementary School retroactive to July 16 through June 30, 2014 for $82.99 per day; Paula George as secretary to the supervisor of special education at the Boyanowski Administration Building retroactive to Aug. 5 with an annual salary of $21,000, prorated for the 2013-14 school year.

Hired Katie Bastian as substitute Biology/Science teacher at Mansfield High School for $120 per day; Deprise Faivre as substitute elementary school teach at Miller, at a daily rate of $120; Alexandra Cooper as biology/chemistry teacher at Liberty High school, effective with the 2013-14 school year, at an annual salary of $44,267; Marcella Nolan as secondary/elementary guidance counselor at the Blossburg schools, effective with the new school year, at an annual salary of $41,984 plus benefits; Kelci Carson as elementary teacher at Miller; Gina Raniero as elementary teacher at Miller.

Hired Carolyn Mitchell as autistic/emotional support teacher at Miller; Michael Boarts as art teacher at Liberty schools; Sarah Murray as Spanish teacher at North Penn High School; Adam Shearer as technology education teacher at North Penn High School; Vicky Sample as elementary teacher at Blossburg Elementary School; Jeffrey Martin as elementary teacher at Blossburg Elementary School; Timothy Huck as special education teacher at Blossburg Elementary School for $40,427 each annual plus benefits; and William Otto as school psychologist at Liberty and Blossburg schools for $51,819 plus benefits.

Approved contracts for coaches and other staff for the new school year including, at Liberty High School: Brian Litzelman, head boys basketball coach; Lynn Grinnell, head softball coach; Tracy Gregory, boys tennis coach; Joe Williams, Girls Tennis Coach.

At Liberty Elementary School, contracts were approved with Lisa Williams, head teacher and Carolyn Moyer, Odyssey of the Mind adviser; and at Mansfield High School, contracts were approved with William Grega Jr., Junior High volleyball coach; and Jessica McKee, assistant girls soccer coach.
