Supervisors looking into meth clinic

Recent word of a methadone clinic opening this week in Old Lycoming Township brought a question from at least one concerned citizen during Tuesday night’s meeting of the township’s supervisors.

Janet Kott, of Roosevelt Ave., asked, “Will this bring more crime and vandalism to the area?”

Supervisor John W Eck indicated that the presence of a methadone clinic should not increase crime.

“We are just now looking into it,” Supervisor Linda Mazzullo added.

Supervisors noted that conditional-use public hearings on a proposed well water withdrawal site at 3231 Lycoming Creek Road will be held at 7 p.m. Aug. 14 and 15 at the township fire hall.

Kathie Hunter was approved as the township’s new zoning officer.

A preliminary land development permit was reviewed for the Memorial Baptist Church, to be built on Hillview Avenue.

The supervisors’ next meeting has been rescheduled for Sept. 17.
