After chance of showers, work week should be sunny, cooler
For those workers who do have the day off today on Labor Day, the humidity and heat still will be oppressive as they enjoy their free Monday.
Fortunately, if you have to return to work on Tuesday, the humidity will relent, even if your boss doesn’t.
“(Today) will be partly sunny, another warm and humid day, with a 40-percent chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms, with a high in the mid-80s,” meteorologist Craig Evanego, of the State College bureau of the National Weather service said. “There will be a 50-percent chance of showers and thunderstorms tonight.”
A cold front crossing the region is bringing the showers, Evanego said, noting that thunderstorms dropped more than 2 inches of rain on portions of Tioga County Saturday night, with one localized report of 4.25 inches.
The front will cool things down starting Tuesday morning, making it comfortable to put away the summer whites and seersucker.
“Tuesday should be partly sunny, cooler and less humid with a high in the mid-70s,” Evanego said. “The whole week, nighttime lows will be in the mid-50s.”
Days will be mostly sunny throughout the rest of the working man’s week, Evangeo said, with highs sitting in the mid- to upper-70s.
“We’ll have a pretty nice stretch of weather through that front,” Evanego said. “We’ll be just a few degrees below normal for the week.”
