Bowling alley gets variance to expand
A city bowling alley on Park Avenue was granted a setback variance Thursday allowing its owners to begin construction of an addition meant to be a space for meetings and parties.
“We want to build a 1,200 square foot addition, probably starting this spring,” said Joseph Lepore, who owns the business with Mark Reamsnyder.
“Their plan won’t have to go through planning commission or City Council,” said Gary Knarr, city zoning officer. “They will have to apply for a building permit and meet the requirements.”
The reason for not having to go through the other clearences is ABC Lanes isn’t expanding more than 50 percent
“The next step is to come in with architectural drawings and apply for their building permit,” Knarr said.
When the lanes were built in 1939, the bowling alley didn’t have a need for a room where tournament players could gather or meetings might be held, Reamsnyder said.
