Holiday tree decorations to begin

Area school students are getting into the holiday spirit long before Thanksgiving this year.

Students at four area schools will be decorating 10 Christmas trees set up outside The Brickyard, 343 Pine St., starting at 9 a.m. today, according to Bernie Katz, president of the Williamsport Business Association.

Classes from St. John Neumann Regional Academy, West Branch School and the Williamsport Area School District have been invited, he said.

The decorating of the trees, which were grown at Pauling Tree Farm near Hughesville, will take place between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. For those wanting to vote on their favorite tree, donation jars are located inside the restaurant foyer.

The tree with the most donations will be selected the winner, with judging by officials from the association, The Brickyard and the city at 6 p.m. next Saturday.

The winning class gets a pizza party, Katz said.
