No-tax-hike county preliminary budget expected

On Thursday, Lycoming County will present its preliminary 2014 budget for public display, which will include no county property tax increases.

“This will be the 10th consecutive year in which the county commissioners have created a no-tax-increase budget,” said Beth Johnston, director of county Fiscal Services.

The county tax millage rate will remain at 4.75.

The county incurred no new debt this year, and doesn’t plan to incur debt in 2014, she said.

“The county will continue to reduce its debt service and maintain a Standard and Poor’s A+ bond rating,” Johnston said.

The county budget process starts in June each year. Public comments will be heard at 10 a.m. Dec. 5 in the commissioners’ boardroom, 330 Executive Plaza, Pine St.

Additional adjustments made until final approval will be announced at a formal adoption Dec. 12.

After Thursday’s meeting, the public may access the preliminary budget online at lyco.org; hard copies are available 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the commissioners’, controller’s and Fiscal Services’ offices; a copy will be available at the James V. Brown Library.
