Group under investigation

Agents from the state Attorney General’s office arrived this week at Roads to Freedom Center for Independent Living of North Central Pennsylvania, Williamsport with a search warrant.

However, the nature of an ongoing investigation of the organization was not disclosed.

Attorney General spokesman Joe Peters said Thursday agents were in the process of removing evidence from the facility at 210 Market St.

“I can’t comment as to the nature of the investigation,” he said.

Signs posted Thursday at both the front and rear doors to the organization’s facility just off Market Square indicated it was closed.

Roads to Freedom reopened Friday.

Executive director Renee Sluzalis said her organization has done no wrong.

“We expect to be 100 percent cleared of what they are looking for,” she said. “We are not even sure what they are looking for. We are not doing anything fraudulent.”

In the meantime, she said Roads to Freedom will remain open.

Roads to Freedom helps people with disabilities by providing resources, options and services for helping them achieve independence in their lives, according to the organization’s website.

It serves clients in an 18-county region.
