East Lycoming School District hires new varsity football coach

HUGHESVILLE – East Lycoming School District has a new varsity football coach, with the appointment of Dan Tucker by the school board Tuesday evening.

Tucker’s hiring was unanimously approved by a vote of 6-0. Voting in favor were Richard Bradley, Richard Michael, Donna Gavitt, Diane Santo, Karen Berger and Randy Eddinger. Lee Ann Hawk, Kellie Shaner-Gordner and Amy Rogers were absent.

Tucker will be paid a salary of $5,017.

The board also unanimously approved the hiring of Rocco Lupo as assistant girls softball coach and set his salary at $2,236.

Also receiving unanimous approval was the hiring of Carl Jacobs as a part-time custodian. He will receive a salary of $10.33 per hour.

The board accepted the resignation of Katurah Shaner as an assistant track coach, but she will remain a volunteer coach.

District Business Manager Dave Maciejewski presented an updated version of the 2014-15 preliminary budget to reflect a more thorough breakdown of revenue and expenditures. The budget still includes an increase of .60 mills, which would raise the district’s tax index above the maximum 2.9 percent mandated by the state.

Maciejewski stressed that the budget still is preliminary and that when actual figures in areas such as state education revenue are released, the budget will be modified to reflect those changes.

The next school board meeting will be at 7 p.m. on Feb. 18 at Hughesville High School, 349 Cemetery Road.
