Ringo Starr tickets sell out in a flash
Maybe it was the lingering effects of the 50th anniversary of The Beatles’ appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show in 1964, but if you were waiting to buy tickets for the Ringo Starr concert at the Community Arts Center, you’re out of luck.
Tickets for the June 8th event, the only Pennsylvania stop on the former Beatle’s 2014 tour, went on sale at 9 a.m. Friday and sold out in a matter of hours, said executive director Rob Steele.
“The ‘Ringo Rush’ commenced at 9 this morning and concluded at 2 this afternoona complete sell-out!” Steele said.
Steele said that the show, with tickets ranging in price from $85 to $165, is the fastest sell-out in his eight-year tenure with the center.
Runner-ups were The Fresh Beat Band, a children’s pop music group from the television show of the same name, in March of 2012, and Clay Aiken, former American Idol contestant, in December of 2007.
It’s a show that has everyone involved “very excited,” said Sun-Gazette publisher Bernard A. Oravec, who worked with Steele on bringing Starr to Williamsport.
“It’s the first show since I’ve been here that sold out in one day,” Oravec said. “I knew it would do well, but I didn’t think it would be this good.”
He said that “the community has really embraced (the show),” but that he’s also been getting phone calls from cities like Philadelphia and New York inquiring about tickets. Steele, he said, has fielded calls from as far away as Canada.
The show will “definitely pull in people from outside the city,” Oravec said.
Bringing in a musician of Starr’s caliber speaks to the hard work and dedication of the arts center staff, he added.
“I couldn’t be more happy with everything so far,” he said.
Not only the drummer for one of the best-selling acts of all time, Starr is a world-renowned musician in his own right. He will perform with his 12th All Starr Band, which includes members from other legendary rock and roll outfits such as Toto, Mr. Mister, and Santana.
While there’s a chance that a radio station or two might give away tickets in contests, don’t expect any more from the box office.
“We do not anticipate any additional tickets materializing,” Steele said. “Congratulations to the lucky people who shopped early!”
So ask around – maybe “With a Little Help From (Your) Friends,” you can find a ticket to Williamsport’s hottest show of the summer.
