Williamsport Area School Board OKs computer purchase

Williamsport Area School District Board approved the purchase of 15 Macbook computers for its Career and Technical Education program Tuesday night, at a cost of $20,355.

The vote was approved 8-0. Voting in favor were David Stone, Lori Baer, Jerene Milliken, Karen Confer, Nicholas Grimes, Jane Penman, Spencer Sweeting and Robin Knauth. Board member Chester Peterman was absent.

The board also approved a bid of $10,350.90 from Clarkson Chemical Co. Inc. for carpet cleaning at Jackson Primary School.

Also approved unanimously was the hiring of staff for after-school supervision of the high school’s Fitness Center. Jeremy W. Bouse, Joseph R. Eaton and Jeremy S. Steppe were hired at a rate of $16.02 per hour.

Several other hires were approved by the board as well:

Nicole M. Breen was hired as a substitute teacher at the rate of $90 per day for the first 45 days and $110 per day for every subsequent day worked, up to a maximum of 180 days per year.

Lynne M. Miller was hired as a substitute administrative support/aide, at a rate of $9 per hour for administrative support and $8 per hour for instructional support aide, up to a maximum of 180 days per year.

Brenda L. Caccia was hired was substitute custodian and event staff, at a rate of $9 per hour, effective March 22.

The board also accepted the resignation of Lisa R. Myer, business education teacher, after more than 27 years of employment with the district.

The board also voted unanimously to reappoint Fred A. Holland, of Murphy, Butterfield and Holland P.C., as district solicitor, at a retainer of $20,000 and an hourly rate of $135 for matters outside the scope of the retainer. Holland’s contract is effective July 1 through June 30, 2015.

The next board meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on April 11 at the District Service Center, 2780 W. Fourth St.
