2 displaced after Saturday afternoon fire in Williamsport

No one was injured when a two-alarm fire broke out in the Newberry neighborhood of Williamsport Saturday afternoon.

Firefighters from Williamsport and Old Lycoming Township responded to 2136 Hillside Ave. at about 3:45 p.m., when the two occupants of the home were preparing to leave for the afternoon and noticed smoke, according to Williamsport Fire Department Deputy Fire Chief Dave Demek.

“Both occupants were home, but they both got out safely,” he said, adding that neither individual required medical attention.

The fire was under control by about 4:15 p.m.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, he said.
