Fire consumes half-acre island

About a half-acre of brush was on fire on an island in the Loyalsock Creek north of Montoursville Saturday.

Montoursville and other firefighters responded to the fire dispatched just before 6 p.m. and were cleaning up about 7 p.m.

At the fire’s height, the air was clouded over with white smoke from the burning embers.

In addition to Montoursville, firefighters from Loyalsock and Eldred townships entered the fire scene from the bicycle path parking along Broad Street and walked to the scene, around the loop of the path, about a quarter mile north of the green bridge crossing the creek.
