Grants for airport work underway
MONTOURSVILLE – The Williamsport Municipal Airport Authority met Thursday evening to adopt an agreement with a consulting firm that will help secure state transportation funding for the construction of a new terminal building at the Williamsport Regional Airport.
Delta Development Group Inc., of Mechanicsburg, will be responsible for acquiring state and other public funding for the authority, at a cost not to exceed $63,000.
The measure was approved by a vote of 6-0. Voting in favor were Tom Hart, William Martin, Chris Logue, Atwood Welker, Frank Pellegrino and Rebecca Burke. Ryan Tira and T. Michael Hughes were absent.
Delta has already begun paperwork to release a $3 million grant from the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program towards the roughly $13 million project, County Transportation Planner Mark Murawski said.
There are two other grants that Delta will he working on, he said.
One is from the Commonwealth Financing Authority, which administers Pennsylvania’s economic stimulus packages. The other is from the state Multimodal Transportation Fund that was created by the transportation bill signed by Gov. Tom Corbett in November.
Each grant can bring in a maximum of $3 million, Murawski said.
The authority also approved the hiring of Gary Bennett as a full-time airport maintenance worker, at a salary of $24,000 per year.
The next meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. May 8 at the Williamsport Regional Airport, 700 Airport Rd.
