Homicide trial begins on Monday
The homicide trial of a man accused in connection with the fatal shooting of another man in Williamsport’s Flanigan Park nearly two years ago is set for Monday in Lycoming County Court.
Opening arguments in the case of Raymaar Alford will begin at 9 a.m. before Judge Nancy Butts.
The victim, Kevan James Connelly, died as a result of the July 9, 2012 shooting.
Earlier this month, a jury was selected for the trial.
The case is being prosecuted by Lycoming County District Attorney Eric Linhardt and Assistant District Attorney Kenneth Osokow.
Alford is being defended by attorney Donald Martino.
The shooting occurred in the early evening hours while the park was reportedly packed with more than 100 people watching basketball games.
According to court papers, Connolley and his brother were playing basketball when they were approached by four men in the park.
When the two attempted to leave the park, Alford and another man identified as Qu Mar Dashon Moore, 22, pulled out handguns and began shooting, investigators reported.
Connolley died minutes later after he being rushed to Williamsport Regional Medical Center.
Alford and Moore, who fled the scene, were captured two months later in Philadelphia by city police there.
