Spring cleanup begins Earth Day

The annual four-week collection of yard waste and small tree limbs by the city Streets and Parks Department begins on Earth Day, April 22, and continues through May 16.

The materials the city will pick up are yard debris such as limbs, plants and scrub clippings, according to William C. Wright, general manager of the city department.

“Please keep them loose and don’t put them in plastic bags because none of the bags will be collected,” Wright said.

The street pickups will be on streets, not alleys, he said.

Residents should not place yard debris out after May 12, he said. An ordinance covers when residents may place yard waste and tree limbs along the streets. Anyone violating the ordinance can be fined $100 per day until the debris is removed at the property owners’ expense, Wright said.

Personnel will use a front-end loader to collect the waste.
