State police to train at Montgomery district facility

MONTGOMERY – The Montgomery Area School Board met Tuesday evening to approve a request from the state police Troop F in Montoursville to use the district facilities for training from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 25.

State police will train for the possible situation of a gunman in a large building. The test previously was done at one of the buildings in the Williamsport Area School District, but that building no longer is available, said Superintendent Daphne Bowers.

The board voted 8-0 on the request. Michael Prowant was absent.

The board also voted to take action on the recommendation of the facilities committee to approve a proposal from Brooks Engineering Services for preliminary design of an addition and renovation to the Montgomery Area Community Center at a fixed fee of $14,866.

The Nutrition Group’s proposal for food services for the period of July 1, 2014, through June 30, 2015, conditional upon approval from the state Department of Education, also was approved by the board.

Connie Baysore was added, pending the receipt of all necessary paperwork, to the substitute nurse list for the 2013-14 school year.
