Memorial Day signals start of swim season
With Memorial Day weekend comes the early opening of community pools.
The final swim season for East End Pool will begin Saturday, according to Justin Simpson, city recreation director.
The pool opens from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday for an adult and senior citizen swim and for the season from noon to 8 p.m. The pool also will be open during those hours Sunday and Memorial Day, Simpson said.
The pool’s regular season is June 7 through Sept. 1.
In Loyalsock Township, the pool at 2103 Northway Road opens Saturday, Sunday and Monday and May 31 and June 1. Pool hours are 1 to 7:45 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 1 to 6:45 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
A senior citizens-only swim is from noon to 1 p.m. The pool opens officially June 6 and runs through Aug. 24.
The Jersey Shore pool, 410 Thompson St., is 50 years old this year. It opens Saturday, Sunday and Memorial Day, according to Bonnie Messersmith, pool director. Hours are noon to 6 p.m. An adult swim and water aerobics will be from 11 a.m. to noon. The pool opens officially June 6, Messersmith said.
A pool party for the half-century mark is scheduled for June 21.
The R.J. Patrizio Pool, 125 New St. in Muncy, is scheduled to be open Memorial Day and June 1. The pool officially opens June 7.
South Williamsport’s Recreation Commission will hold a meeting regarding its community pool’s future, borough officials said.
The meeting is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. June 2 at the borough building at 329 W. Southern Ave.
