Power outage hits section of Loyalsock Township

More than 1,400 PPL Electric Utilities customers in Loyalsock Township were without power for about three hours Wednesday morning and into the early afternoon.

The outage was caused by a utility pole fire at Sheridan Street and Country Club Drive around 10:15 a.m., according to PPL spokeswoman Teri MacBride.

MacBride said equipment failure probably is to blame for the fire.

“We can attribute the failure to weather, but we’ll have to do an investigation,” she said. “It was very likely weather-related.”

MacBride could not say which areas of the township were affected by the outage.

“In the course of making a repair, we have to remove service to a larger number of customers,” MacBride said. “Once we do the repair, then we restore power to everyone.”

Power was restored to all affected customers by 1:30 p.m.
