Authority agrees to pay out $805K to settle lawsuit
The Williamsport Municipal Sanitary Authority has agreed Wednesday to pay a contractor working on its central wastewater treatment facility $805,000 in a settlement of a lawsuit.
Wickersham Construction Co., of Lancaster, agreed to drop its lawsuit in return for the money, according to Douglas Keith, authority executive director.
The contractor filed the suit with the authority in August 2012 seeking $1.7 million plus interest and legal costs.
The authority had alleged the company did not complete work assignment on time, Keith said.
“It is unfortunate that the authority was forced to defend itself against this claim,” said Thomas Frazier, chairman of the sanitary authority.
The settlement was thought to be the best solution for the 18,000 authority customers.
