LEGISLATIVE TALLY

Locally elected and appointed officials voted on the following matters in the past week:

Federal

The U.S. House of Representatives voted 277-130 to pass the America Gives More Act of 2014, which amends the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to permanently extend and expand the charitable deduction for contributions of food inventory. Voting yes were U.S. Reps. Tom Marino, R-Cogan Station, and Glenn “GT” Thompson, R-Howard.

State

The state House and Senate were out of session. They will reconvene on Sept. 15.

County

The Lycoming County commssioners voted 3-0 to approve two road design agreements with Larson Design Group, one valued at $24,000 for work on County Farm Road in Montoursville and one for $64,000 for the developing Timber Run Industrial Park, near the county landfill on Route 15. Voting yes were Jeff Wheeland, Tony Mussare and Ernie Larson.

The Lycoming County Planning Commission voted 5-0 to table final approval of a gas compressor station in Gamble Township until its next meeting in August. Voting in favor were Howard Fry, Jim Dunn, Carl Nolan, Bill Parsons and Michael Sherman. Cindy Bower and George Logue Jr. abstained. Joseph Neyhart and Chris Keiser were absent.

Municipal

Jersey Shore Borough Council voted to advertise for bids for the community public river access project. Voting yes were Sean Simcox, Barbara Schmouder, Kenneth Scheesley, John Pisarcik, Janet Barnhart, Marguerite Dyroff, Deborah Colocino and Paul Garrett

South Williamsport Borough Council voted 7-0 in favor of granting conditional-use permits from Nittany Oil Co. and Williamsport Municipal Water Authority for separate properties. Voting yes were Joseph Larue Jr., Albert Morrison III, Jeff Tompkins, Dan Cupp, Henry Frey Jr., Ed Weinhoffer and J. Bernard Schelb. Richard Harris Jr. and Robert Cronin were absent.

Woodward Township supervisors voted to to allocate natural gas impact fee funds for road and bridge work. Voting yes were Wayne Robinson, Jack Coleman and Chairman Alan Worth.

School District

Williamsport Area School Board voted 8-0 to approve the personnel transfer of Brandon Pardoe from principal at Williamsport Area Middle School to head principal at Williamsport Area High School, effective July 16, at a salary of $117,000. Voting yes were Lori Baer, Karen Confer, David Stone, Spencer Sweeting, Nicholas Grimes, Jane Penman, Diane Turner and Jerene Milliken. Absent from the meeting was Robin Knauth.

The South Williamsport Area School Board voted 7-0 to approve new graduation requirements. Voting yes were John Engel, Donald Lowe, Greg Anthony, Joseph Pulizzi III, Chris Branton, Jerry Broskey and Sam Burch. Absent from the vote were Cathy Bachman and Sue Davenport.

The East Lycoming School Board voted 5-0 to re-elect Donna Gavitt as board treasurer for the 2014-15 school year. Voting yes were Richard Michael, Richard Bradley, Gavitt, Jonathan Brokaw and Randy Eddinger. Absent from the vote were Dr. Amy Rogers, Kellie Shaner-Gordner, Karen Berger and Diane Santo.

Locally elected and appointed officials voted on the following matters in the past week:

County

Lycoming County commissioners voted 3-0 to approve a zoning map amendment that affects McIntyre, McHenry, Bastress and Limestone townships. The amendment rezoned several properties in McIntyre township from “rural center” use to “countryside,” which allows for light industry. In McHenry Township, an area along Route 414 was rezoned to prevent natural gas drilling. Both Bastress and Limestone townships joined the county’s zoning partnership as a result of the amendment, relieving the township’s of zoning responsibilities. Voting yes were Commissioners Jeff Wheeland, Tony Mussare and Ernest Larson.

Municipal

City Planning Commission voted to recommend certificates of appropriateness for a dog kennnel/groomer at 41 W. Fourth St. and for an elevator at the Salvation Army, 457 Market St.
