1 man ‘critical’ after shooting

A 25-year-old man was shot and critically wounded in the 400 block of Third Avenue about 1:15 a.m. Thursday, city police Capt. Michael Orwig said.

The victim was shot at 410 Third Ave. and somehow made his way to West Fourth Street, a half a block away, where he was picked up by an ambulance and rushed to Williamsport Regional Medical Center, Orwig said.

The man, who has “Philadelphia ties,” has been moved to a trauma center, where he was listed in critical condition with two gunshot wounds to the upper body, Orwig said.

No arrest has been made, he added.

“It’s too early to tell what the motive was at this time,” Orwig said.

According to Orwig, the shooting was not related to the stealing of a black BMW that was taken from West Fourth and Arch streets just before 1 a.m.

The car was recovered within minutes at West Fourth and Poplar streets and, according to police, the alleged thieves were friends of the car heist victim.

A stolen handgun was recovered in the car’s glove compartment, Orwig said.

One man in the car was jailed on a state parole violation and will be charged later with a firearms violation, Orwig said. His identity will be released when he is charged, Orwig said.
