3 dead in Potter County plane crash
AUSTIN — Three young men are dead after the plane they were in crashed in a remote wooded location in Potter County Sunday, state police said.
Rifat Tawig, 25, Cory Mijac, 18 and Benjamin Jeffries, 19, were onboard a Piper Cherokee single-engine plane when it fell from they sky.
A land and air search found the wreckage around 3:30 p.m. Monday, police said.
According to the report, the terrain at the crash site is extremely rugged, steep and wooded and extends for several hundred yards through the woods.
The incident still is being investigated by the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board.
