Storm takes life of retired teacher; tree hits home

MILL HALL —  A Mill Hall area man was killed Thursday night after a tree felled by wind and heavy rain crashed into his home on Noll Drive just off Route 64 in in Potter Township, Clinton County.

Authorities had not officially identified the victim as of Friday morning, but family members at the scene confirmed to The Express he was Frank Dwyer, a beloved retired teacher in the Keystone Central School District.

Dwyer’s wife, Kathy Dwyer, said her husband was in a second-floor bedroom latching windows amid heavy rainfall and high winds about 10:15 p.m. when a large tree came crashing into the second floor. The impact propelled Dwyer out of the home and he landed on his back on the driveway, his wife said.

Initially, she couldn’t find Dwyer and sought help from neighbors. They then found him on the driveway.

He was rushed to Williamsport Regional Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. Family members were notified and on their way, she said.
