A Democratic newcomer will take on a six-year incumbent for the 10th Congressional District in November’s general election.
Mike Molesevich of Lewisburg secured the Democratic nomination in April after running as a write-in candidate. Owner of Molesevich Environmental LLC, he has been a member of Lewisburg Borough Council and the mayor of Lewisburg.
Before being elected six years ago, U.S. Rep. Tom Marino, R-Cogan Station, served as U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Pennsylvania and Lycoming County District Attorney.
The 10th Congressional District includes Lycoming, Northumberland, Sullivan, Tioga and Union counties as well as Bradford, Juniata, Lackawana, Mifflin, Monroe, Perry, Pike, Snyder, Susquehanna and Wayne counties.
Q. How would you deal with the issue of transgender bathrooms in federal buildings and on federal grounds?
Molesevich: “I don’t care. Think about what we do when we fly on an airplane. We all share the same restroom. Case closed. There is more important things to do in this country and this world.
“I don’t want to see more restrictions or more regulations. I would have to see the specific wording of the bill that was being proposed. I would have to keep an open mind, weigh both sides like any intelligent adult would do on any other issue and make the best decision on that legislation being proposed at that time.
Marino: “I don’t agree with it at all. I don’t want some derelict going into a restroom with my daughter who’s 21 years old, let alone a 7- or 8-year-old.
“This is insane. People can be what they want, but don’t infringe my rights; but also don’t cause a dangerous situation.”
