Campbell Street blaze leaves tenants displaced

A fire at 10:25 p.m. Thursday in a six-apartment rental unit, 308 Campbell St., left its first floor tenants displaced.

Smoke was coming out of the first floor and flames were visible on front porch, according to a media release from the Williamsport Bureau of Fire. The fire extended up a tree, which caused minor damage to the outside of the structure.

The fire was contained to the front porch and first floor bathroom.

The cause of the fire still is under investigation.

It caused $7,500 worth of damage.

The first floor tenant was displaced due to the fire but the rest of the residents were asked to leave due to the building not meeting city codes, according to Todd Heckman, fire chief.
