Special curbside sales planned for Thanksgiving newspaper

The Williamsport Sun-Gazette’s Thanksgiving Day edition will once again be made available to customers curbside this year.

The newspaper’s biggest edition of the year, filled with advertisements that include holiday discount sales, can be picked up by customers a day early.

“We will have a Wednesday night pre-sale,” said Sun-Gazette Publisher Bernard A. Oravec.

The Thanksgiving paper will be sold curbside from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday between the Sun-Gazette building at 252 W. Fourth St., Williamsport and the Community Arts Center next door.

Motorists literally can drive up to the curb there and pick up the special edition being sold for $1.75.

Oravec said it’s an opportunity for those buying the paper to use the fliers, inserts and other advertisements found inside it to get a jump on the Black Friday sales.

Early editions of the Thanksgiving newspaper also will be available Wednesday evening at Weis Markets in Old Lycoming Township, Giant in Loyalsock Township and Wegmans, Williamsport.

This marks the second straight year the Sun-Gazette is selling its Thanksgiving edition a day early.

The Sun-Gazette will also be sold curbside Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Lock Haven Express, 9-11 W. Main St., Lock Haven along with that newspaper.

Oravec said there was a great response to the curbside sales last year.

The event in Williamsport will include a live radio broadcast by WILQ from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. with host Keith Kitchen and the Q-Rooster.

A tent also will be set up at the site for people who want to get out of their vehicles and purchase a paper.
