Muncy to review ordinance Dec. 19

MUNCY — A borough committee here is finishing up a final draft of a proposed residual waste and air pollution ordinance, borough Councilwoman Karen Richards told council Tuesday night.

The proposed ordinance was expected to be posted on the borough’s website today and is to be reviewed by council at its next meeting, tentatively scheduled for Dec. 19.

“I think it was a very positive way to go about this,” Richards said.

Council is looking for a site for the meeting. Its meetings were moved to the high school auditorium in recent months after a large contingent interested in the waste-to-energy plant proposed by Delta Thermal Energy Inc. began attending the meetings.

The high school auditorium is not available on Dec. 19, Borough Manager Bill Ramsey said, so the borough is looking into the Geringer Fire Hall as an alternate site.

In another matter, council voted unanimously to close a deal with Lycoming County on a property at 217 N. Market St. The property will be torn down and turned into an empty lot due to it being in a flood zone, Ramsey said.

“We can’t build anything there that would impede the flow of water,” he said, adding that, at a later date, the borough may be able to turn several empty lots in that area into a park or athletic field. “We’re at the mercy of when FEMA says, ‘Hey, there’s money available.'”
