Labor Department awards money for region’s flood recovery

Federal funding has been awarded to local regions affected by the October flash flood that swept through the region.

A National Dislocated Worker Grant of $238,049 was given by the U.S. Department of Labor to the state Department of Labor and Industry. The funds will be dedicated to Lycoming, Bradford, Centre and Sullivan counties and will be used to assist with cleanup, demolition, repair, renovation and reconstruction of public structures, facilities and lands.

Supported by the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act of 2014, the grant temporarily expands the service capacity of dislocated worker training and employment programs at the state and local levels by providing funding assistance response to large, unexpected economic events that cause significant job losses.
