Congressman: No town halls scheduled

Speaking through his aide, U.S. Rep. Tom Marino said he has no town halls scheduled for the near future.

“We currently do not have any town hall meetings scheduled at this time,” said Ryan Barton, senior director for Marino.

According to the U.S. House of Representatives website, the house currently is out of session, and it classifies this week as “district work periods.” Session will begin again on Monday.

Republican legislators across the country also are receiving pressure from local Democratic or left-leaning groups, according to the Associated Press. In a recent report, it stated that GOP legislators in Colorado, Montana, Texas and Arizona have failed to schedule or cancelled town halls due to the high volume of protesters.

Barton said Marino has held many town halls, as well as tele-town halls, where people can call on the telephone, over the past two years, but nothing is currently planned for the future. Marino represents a district of 15 counties.

“We have also held numerous tele-town hall meetings that allow thousands of constituents from across the district to hear what is happening in Washington D.C. and ask Congressman Marino questions,” Barton said.

He declined to comment on how many recent requests for town halls Marino’s office has received.
