Meetings on aging stormwater system to be held Monday

The Williamsport Sanitary Authority is holding two public meetings Monday on the need for the authority to begin to replace an aging stormwater system throughout the city and how that is expected to impact customers with new fees.

“Stormwater services and infrastructure are critical to protecting lives, property, commerce, and the quality of our local and national waterways,” said Doug Keith, authority executive director. The city’s stormwater infrastructure, however, is under increasing stress due to age, development and expanding regulatory requirements, he said.

Significant improvements are necessary that will impact “all property owners in the city,” Keith said.

A plan is in place to begin to manage the issue and to look at goals and overall costs, he said.

Monday’s meetings are set for 2 p.m. at the Walnut Room, Williamsport Regional Medical Center, and 7 p.m. at the Williamsport Middle School Cafetorium.

The Walnut Room is accessible by the hospital’s front entrance off High Street. Take the elevator to the third floor and turn left. The room is across from the hospital’s gift shop.

The school Cafetorium is accessible from West Fourth Street.
