Main break leads to boil water notice

PHILIP A. HOLMES/Sun-Gazette Williamsport Municipal Water Authority employees spent several hours Tuesday repairing a water main break on Four Mile Drive, just west of Warrensville Road. The break, which occurred about 11 a.m., involved the same 12-inch main that ruptured on July 25, 2015, and occurred less than 12 feet from the earlier incident. Numerous homes were without water as crews worked into the night. Among the properties affected were the Valley View Nursing Center and Elmcroft Senior Living, both of which put contingency plans in place so their residents would have water.

A boil water advisory was issued Tuesday afternoon after a water main break in the area of Four Mile Drive and Warrensville Road in Loyalsock Township.

The Williamsport Municipal Water and Sanitary Authority has instructed residents in the affected area to boil water before consuming it.

The authority will give additional notice when the water has been cleared of any possible contamination.

A map of the affected area is shown on the authority’s website, wmwa-wsa.org.

The authority said the advisory applies to residents and businesses in an area along Warrensville Road, from East Third Street north to Stopper Drive.

The eastern edge of the advisory area is on County Farm Road and the western area takes in Sand Hill Road and Schick Boulevard.

Should water service be restored, the advisory remains in effect until the authority gives notice to those in the area, the authority said.
