Sun expected today, rain likely later in week

PHILIP A. HOLMES/Sun-Gazette Firefighters respond Sunday when a tree fell on Route 654 a mile west of DuBoistown.

While sunny skies are expected to prevail during the beginning part of the week, keep you umbrella handy because you just might need it again on Wednesday, according to Peter Jung, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service at State College.

“It’s going to be mostly sunny skies, a little cooler with highs only in the mid-60s,” Jung said in describing what the weather was expected to be like today.

“We’re going to have a repeat on Tuesday, lots of sun,” he added.

The cold front that came through triggered the afternoon and evening showers the region experienced on Sunday, Jung said.

Wind and heavy rain knocked down trees, closing the 1800 block of Log Run Road in Loyalsock Township and a section of Route 654 in Armstrong Township for a period of time.

“Wind gusts were close to 40 mph” on Sunday, Jung said.

“Moisture could return by Wednesday. There is a chance of showers each day from that day through Friday,” he added.

However, sunny skies could once again return by the weekend, Jung said. High temperatures throughout the week were expected to range from the low to high 60s with overnight temperatures ranging from the low 40s at the start of the week to the lower 50s from Wednesday.
